WSJ: China Now Leading Destination for Clean Energy Investment; US Falling Behind

1 min. read

According to the Wall Street Journal:

For the first time, China last year surpassed the U.S. as the leading destination for clean-energy investment, according to a study set for release Wednesday by Pew Charitable Trusts. That underscores what President Barack Obama has repeatedly cautioned against –ceding leadership in clean energy to other big manufacturing countries.

According to Pew, 2012 was not a one-off. Rather, “given its world-leading long-term goals and record for meeting or exceeding mileposts en route to these goals, China is likely to be a world leader throughout this decade,” Pew found.

In other words, so much for b.s. that we can't combat climate disruption and make the transition to a clean energy economy because Chinese dirty energy investment will erase any gains we create. The question is, how long are we going to allow China to eat our lunch in the race for the multi-trillion-dollar clean energy market of the 21st century?
